Dr. Rasheed Zand: Chairman of the board of directors.

  • 1999 to 2003 worked with UNFAO as the Project Assistant in the Water Resources Department in Iraq.
  • 2005 to 2011 worked as the Director of the Meteorology department in Erbil. Published a brief about the climate changes in Erbil during 1999.
  • A member of environmental summit of Arab countries in Cairo 2009. Participated in COP24 of the 24th meeting of the conference of parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It took place in Katowice, Poland in 2018.

Dr. Kamaran Hassan

  • Director General of Planning and Follow-up, Ministry of Health KRG.

  • Deputy Minister of Environment, Iraq.

Dr. Ghassan Hussni Ali

  • The first Head of the Department of Prosthetics & Orthotics in the country in 1985 at the Medical Technical Institute in Bab Al Moadam in Baghdad.
  • Head of the department of engineering in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the period 1994-1998.
  • Started humanitarian work with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in 1998 as a field officer supervising different rehabilitation centers providing prosthetic and orthotic fitting in different governorates (Mosul, Basrah, Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil).
  • Served as an expert in this field abroad, where he spent four years working with ICRC in Afghanistan 2007-2010 and one year in Yemen with World Bank to establish a rehabilitation center in Al Mukalla and train the personnel working in that center.
  • Holds an M.Sc. degree in Bio-Mechanic Engineering from the University of Manchester (UMIST) in the UK in 1984.
  • Currently working as a Consultant in Prosthetics & Orthotics with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and teaching at Erbil Polytechnic University in Erbil Health Medical Technical College.

Tara Aziz

  • Worked as Senior Program Officer at Information Management and Mine Action Programs, formerly a part of Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF). This non-governmental organization operates globally, with programs implemented in various regions, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Georgia, and Colombia.
  • Washington Kurdish Institute, where she facilitated the implementation of a health survey targeting Iraqi refugees in the United States.
  • From June 1991 to July 2001, excluding the period during which she pursued graduate studies in the United States, Tara worked with multiple United Nations agencies in Kurdistan. Her diverse responsibilities spanned across various aspects of humanitarian work, including assisting displaced individuals, advocating for children with disabilities, supporting women and children in conflict with the law, and participating in negotiations to ensure the provision of essential aid to civilian populations. Notably, Tara's contributions helped mitigate the impact of conflict and crisis on vulnerable communities.
  • Holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree from the University of Notre Dame - Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. At Notre Dame, her area of specialization was Analysis of Conflict, International Conflict Resolution, Global Politics and Human Rights.
  • Currently serving as the Senior Vision Resource Navigator at the Prevention of Blindness Society of metropolitan Washington's Low Vision Resource Center.

Isam Ghareeb Barzangy: The founder of MILE

  • Held different positions from 2004 to 2011 with the United Nations Office for Project Services in various countries in the field of mine action database programming and information management in Iraq, Sudan, and Afghanistan.
  • Country Representative/Program Manager/ Senior Information Management Technical Advisor for an international NGO (iMMAP Inc) in Iraq from 2011 until 2022.
  • Information Management officer with United Nation Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Erbil, Iraq from 1999-2013.
  • Head of the Information Management office with US international NGO (RONCO) from 2003-3004.
  • Holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Robert Kennedy College in Zurich, Switzerland. Barzangy completed the CISR Senior Managers’ Course in ERW and Mine Action in May 2016.

Suleiman Nyamwaya: Co-founder of MILE.

  • Responsible for all operational planning, coordination, and oversight.
  • Prior to joining MILE, he had accumulated a long period of service with the UN and Humanitarian organizations in operation management in Africa and Middle East.
  • Holds a BSc Civil Engineering and MA Disaster Management Degrees.

Marwan Taha: Co-founder of MILE.

  • Accountable for the planning and execution of the organization’s Baghdad projects. Marwan has worked with international NGOs for more than five years in the fields of information management and disaster management.
  • Holder of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering a Master of Business Administration from the University of the People in the United States.
  • Fluent in Arabic and English.
